Air Target Interceptors

Due to the increasing number of hostile reconnaissance UAVs operating over the positions of Ukrainian forces and in urban areas, there is a strong need for systematic countermeasures against these assets. Interceptor aircraft are capable of destroying enemy drones and represent a cost-effective and efficient method that enhances air defense capabilities.

This training track focuses on instruction in operating fixed-wing UAVs for the interception of moving aerial targets, including missions related to reconnaissance, surveillance, target search, and fire adjustment.

The objective of this training track is to establish an additional source of personnel for the Security and Defence Forces of Ukraine by preparing universal crews consisting of trained external pilots and ground control station operators capable of operating fixed-wing (FW) and VTOL UAVs. This is one of the most relevant and technically demanding areas in the training of aerial reconnaissance specialists for the Security and Defence Forces of Ukraine.

The training includes instruction in operating fixed-wing interceptor drones. This category of military unmanned aerial vehicles is designed to neutralise hostile reconnaissance UAVs (ZALA, Supercam, Orlan, Merlin, Kub, etc.). Interceptor aircraft are capable of destroying enemy drones and represent a cost-effective and efficient method integrated into the air defence system.

The course training programme covers the following stages:

  • Provision of general theoretical knowledge on fixed-wing UAVs, piloting, and operator activities;
  • Simulator-based training flights;
  • Practical piloting and operator activities involving fixed-wing UAVs.

Enrollment in the course is organised based on the queue for receiving equipment from the manufacturer. At present, the queue is filled through the end of 2025. Please follow updates on course enrollment on the website boryviter.org.ua.
