Lessons Learned

Lessons Learned is a methodology developed by NATO to effectively capture lessons learned that can be applied to achieve improvements and avoid repeating mistakes.

The key objectives of the LL are to provide the command with sound materials for decision-making, as well as to raise awareness among the personnel that everyone is a stakeholder in the LL process. Success and efficiency come with involvement; sharing experiences eliminates the possibility of repeating the same mistakes repeatedly.

Components of LL studies:

  • Personnel training (LL, AAR, observation);
  • Training of officers in Lessons Learned (process organization, documents);
  • Formation of analytical abilities.
